Privacy Policy

Our Commitment to Privacy
Bay Terminal is built with privacy as a core principle. We believe your SSH connections, server credentials, and terminal activities should remain completely private and under your control.
What We Do NOT Collect
Bay Terminal does NOT collect, transmit, or store:
- SSH credentials or private keys
- Server addresses or connection details
- Terminal commands or session data
- File contents or directory structures
- Usage analytics or telemetry
- Personal information of any kind
- Crash reports (unless you explicitly choose to share them)
Local-First Architecture
Bay Terminal operates entirely on your Mac. All data is stored locally using macOS secure storage:
- SSH Keys: Stored in macOS Keychain with encryption
- Server Configurations: Saved locally in your user directory
- Saved Commands: Stored in local application data
- Session State: Managed by tmux on remote servers
There is no Bay Terminal cloud service, no remote relay, and no middleman. Your SSH connections go directly from your Mac to your servers.
Network Communication
Bay Terminal only communicates over the network for:
- Direct SSH connections to servers you configure
- Software updates (checking for new versions via GitHub releases)
No data from your terminal sessions or server configurations is ever transmitted to Bay Terminal servers or third parties.
macOS System Permissions
Bay Terminal requests only necessary macOS permissions:
- Network Access: Required for SSH connections to your servers
- Keychain Access: To securely store SSH keys and passwords
- File System: To read SSH config files and save application preferences
We do not request access to contacts, location, camera, microphone, or other unnecessary system resources.
AI API Keys (Bring Your Own Key)
When you use Bay Terminal's AI Copilot feature with your own API keys (OpenAI, Anthropic Claude, Google Gemini):
- API Keys Storage: Your API keys are stored securely in macOS Keychain with encryption
- Direct Communication: API requests go directly from your Mac to your chosen AI provider (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google)
- No Relay: Bay Terminal does not intercept, log, or have access to your API requests or responses
- Provider Privacy: Your AI usage is subject to the privacy policy of your chosen provider (OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google)
Bay Terminal acts only as a client to facilitate communication between your Mac and the AI provider you select. We recommend reviewing the privacy policies of your chosen AI provider.
Subscriptions and Payments
Bay Terminal offers optional in-app subscriptions for Pro features:
- Payment Processing: All subscription payments are processed securely by Apple through the App Store
- Payment Data: Bay Terminal does not collect, process, or store any payment information
- Subscription Data: We only receive anonymized transaction identifiers from Apple to verify subscription status
- No Personal Info: Your name, email, or payment details are never shared with Bay Terminal
Your subscription is managed entirely through your Apple ID and App Store account. For billing questions, please contact Apple Support.
Third-Party Services
Bay Terminal does not integrate with any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services. The app is completely self-contained.
When you use AI features with your own API keys, your AI requests are sent directly to the provider you choose (OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google). These providers have their own privacy policies.
Children's Privacy
Bay Terminal does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children under 13. The app is designed for software developers and system administrators.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last Updated" date. Continued use of Bay Terminal after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
Your Rights
Since Bay Terminal stores all data locally on your Mac, you have complete control:
- Delete application data at any time via macOS settings
- Remove SSH keys from macOS Keychain
- Uninstall Bay Terminal without leaving any remote data
